Overview

Nutrition Services provides a comprehensive analysis of a patient’s dietary habits. Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) work to promote gradual lifestyle changes to benefit the health and improve the condition of each patient. Each consultation is individualized to meet the needs of each patient and help them reach their health goals.

Why Choose a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

While anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, only a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) has completed the professional training required to be a food and nutrition expert.  An RDN has met academic and professional requirements including:

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Complete a supervised practice program at an accredited dietetic internship working in healthcare facilities, community agencies, and/or food service corporations
  • Must pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Completing continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration

What Types of Patients Benefit from Nutrition Services

Health professionals agree that nutrition services are one of the first treatments that individuals should receive to improve conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Nutrition Services also works with a variety of other common health conditions, including pregnancy, infertility, hyperlipidemia, obesity, renal failure, cancer, allergies, gout and many more. Nutrition services are also helpful to athletes looking to improve performance.

What to Expect

Your first visit with the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will take approximately one hour. They will complete a review of your eating and lifestyle habits, medical history and thoroughly assess your nutritional health. From there, a personalized nutrition treatment plan will be implemented for the patient and the RDN will schedule follow-up appointments as necessary to check on your progress and tweak the plan as needed.

Ask your provider if a referral for Medical Nutrition Therapy is right for you. Once the referral is in place, an appointment can be scheduled with one of our RDNs. Referrals can be made through your current primary care physician or a specialist.
