Early detection of any cancer significantly improves your chances of beating it. This is why it's so important that you remain aware of any changes in your body and note them to your doctor during your annual wellness visit. With many gynecologic cancers, your physician may not find any evidence of cancer during a regular wellness exam or regular gynecologic exam. Telling your doctor about any irregular bleeding, pain during intercourse, or consistent pelvic pain will give your physician the necessary insight needed to plan the appropriate tests.
In many cases, once your physician understands any unusual symptoms that you've been exhibiting, a Pap test and pelvic exam can help your physician determine the right next steps. Afterward, your physician may schedule additional test or refer you to a gynecologic oncologist to help determine staging and treatment plans. Some of these tests can include biopsies and blood tests.
The Gynecologic Oncologist at Physicians East will work directly with you and your team of providers to determine the best course of action for your treatment. You'll have a personalized treatment plan that's tailored to meet your unique needs.
