Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medicine and medical imaging that uses very small amounts of radioactive materials (radio pharmaceuticals) to diagnose and treat diseases. Currently, at Physicians East, we offer nuclear cardiac stress tests and bone scans. Nuclear stress tests are used to determine blood flow to the heart. Bone scans are done to evaluate damage to the bones, detect cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the bones, and monitor conditions that can affect the bones (including infection and trauma).

The trace amounts of radiation are used by radiologists and your physician to provide a quick, safe and more accurate diagnosis of your condition, if any. Used in conjunction with CT scans and MRIs, nuclear medicine helps your providers at Physicians East get the most accurate diagnostic data available so they can make the best informed decision about your treatment and your health.
