Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a sophisticated computer system. The procedure is both safe and painless. The superior clarity of the images allows for early detection and treatment of disease without invasive procedures such as surgery. This diagnostic test is used to learn more about a variety of conditions. Physicians East has offered MRI services since 2006.

Uses of an MRI

  • Abnormalities of the brain and spinal cord
  • Tumors, cysts, and other abnormalities in various parts of the body
  • Injuries or abnormalities of the joints
  • Certain types of heart problems
  • Diseases of the liver and other abdominal organs
  • Causes of pelvic pain in women (e.g., fibroids, endometriosis)
  • Suspected uterine abnormalities in women undergoing evaluation for infertility

In many cases, MRI saves the cost of hospitalization and numerous other tests. The better the image, the earlier a disorder can be identified and evaluated, enabling physicians to treat it with great success. There are no known side effects of a MRI examination.
