Physicians East offers the latest technology for breast cancer detection. The Physicians East Arlington Boulevard location began offering 3-D digital mammography in September 2015. Digital mammography has been offered at our Arlington Boulevard location since 2007, and at Greenville Ob/Gyn and Greenville Women's Clinic since 2008.The Farmville and Kinston locations installed digital mammography units in January 2015 and September 2015, respectively.
Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed and more importantly, manipulated. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.
Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screening from a patient's perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in callbacks to obtain additional images. Demand for digital mammography is high and we are pleased to offer this state-of-the-art technology.
Physicians East has offered diagnostic mammography since 2003. This technology is used to evaluate a patient with abnormal clinical findings such as a breast lump or lumps found by a woman or her doctor. Diagnostic mammography may also be done after an abnormal screening mammogram. Often a breast ultrasound is indicated following the diagnostic mammogram for further evaluation by a radiologist.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics demonstrate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97 percent. Get your mammogram today!
